What has happened to companies after SageTank? Let’s look at 3 startups that competed previously: Root, Didomi, and Yoodli.
Root
Root is an app that game-ifies the math learning process for children. The startup was founded by Aashna Saraf, who majored in psychology (PO’21). Root aims to address the setbacks in Indian children’s acquisition of math concepts, which was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Root won the Catalyst Award, worth up to $25,000 in funding, and currently features 14 games that focus on various fundamental math concepts.
Didómi
Didómi is a social enterprise that uses funds generated from water bottle sales to combat the water crisis. The company was founded by Anaa Jibicho (PO ’23), Brian Bishop (PO ’22), and Lamah Bility (University of Wisconsin '20). Each bottle provides 10 years of water access to a person affected by the water crisis, and 50% of Didómi’s profits are donated to WaterisLIFE. They secured $10,000 from the Davis Projects Peace Fund and have also co-branded with organizations such as George Washington University and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
Yoodli
Yoodli provides AI-powered feedback on your communication skills to help you “ace your upcoming presentation.” The company was co-founded by Varun Puri (CMC ‘16) and Esha Joshi. The program offers real-time analytics and the ability to collaborate asynchronously with teammates on your speeches. They raised $1 million in pre-seed funding from the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Madrona Venture Group. Yoodli’s founding team features alumni from the MIT Media Lab, Apple, and GoogleX.
